The Chamber of Orchestra of Pittsburgh is delighted to present the Pittsburgh premiere performance of Olivier Messiaen’s Des Canyons aux Étoiles… (From the Canyons to the Stars…) on September 10, 2022. Messiaen created the work to capture the awe inspired by the landscapes of the American West in a unique musical composition. Noted for its distinctive instrumentation, the piece visits scenes large and small as it explores the vastness of the landscape and the metamorphoses of both land and sky. In Messiaen’s own words, “one progresses from the deepest bowels of the earth and ascends toward the stars.” This performance will feature an impressive roster of guest soloists as well as guest conductor, Kevin Fitzgerald, Assistant Conductor of the Alabama Symphony.
